When Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced his charter bus policy for illegal immigrants back in April, Washington, D.C. was designated as the sanctuary city they’d be sent to in response to them being dumped in already overwhelmed Texas border towns thanks to President Biden’s disastrous open borders policies.
A few months later and as D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser complained about her city’s homeless shelters allegedly being overrun and twice requested National Guard help, Abbott added New York City to the list, after which a contentious back and forth broke out between Abbott and the city’s Mayor Eric Adams, who also whined about resources allegedly being depleted and angrily denounced Abbott as an “anti-American governor.”
And now, just a couple of days before the Labor Day holiday weekend gets started, we find out that Democrat-run Chicago – home to America’s worst Mayor Lori Lightfoot – has been added to the charter bus destination list, with two buses arriving early Wednesday evening at Chicago’s Union Station according to Fox News.
In a statement, Abbott detailed his rationale for adding Chicago to the list:
“President Biden’s inaction at our southern border continues putting the lives of Texans–and Americans–at risk and is overwhelming our communities,” said Governor Abbott. “To continue providing much-needed relief to our small, overrun border towns, Chicago will join fellow sanctuary cities Washington, D.C. and New York City as an additional drop-off location. Mayor Lightfoot loves to tout the responsibility of her city to welcome all regardless of legal status, and I look forward to seeing this responsibility in action as these migrants receive resources from a sanctuary city with the capacity to serve them.”
Mayor Lightfoot’s office said in response that they were working to make sure the migrants got what they needed upon arrival:
“Chicago is and will continue to be a welcoming city. We are collaborating across various City departments and with local, state and community partners to ensure everyone who arrives in Chicago is greeted and treated with dignity and respect,” Mayor Lightfoot’s office said in a statement.
Except that clearly didn’t happen:
While Lightfoot’s office is playing nice so far, expect her to eventually lash out big time at Abbott just as Adams did, because Lightfoot – like other Democrats who like to talk a big game but consistently fail to deliver – is infamous for not practicing what she preaches and for holding people to standards to which she doesn’t hold herself.
I’m looking forward to how this one plays out in the public eye, and especially with how Lori Lightfoot will undoubtedly contort herself into a pretzel in proclaiming on one hand how “welcoming” she is but how Chicago won’t be able to handle the influx – further proving Abbott’s point.
As always, stay tuned!
