Guadalupe River near Spring Branch is rising fast and flooding

Ten to 12 inches of rain fell in Kerr County, resulting in major flooding along the Guadalupe River.

While the river is starting to recede upstream, flooding is expected along the Guadalupe River downstream Friday night from Comfort to Spring Branch.

Spring Branch residents are expected to feel the river’s effects after sunset.

The Guadalupe River is expected to reach flood stage of 37 feet by 2 a.m. on Saturday, which will likely cover U.S. Highway 281. This forecast crest is expected to be 10 feet higher than the Flood of ’98’s crest.

People who live along the Guadalupe River near Spring Branch need to make plans immediately to spend the evening on higher ground, especially along the river bank and for RV/trailer park residents.

Flooding at night can be especially dangerous, considering it will be dark and more difficult to tell where the water is.

Do not wait for water to rise before evacuating. Floodwaters can move in faster than expected, especially after dark.

Secure any belongings that may be vulnerable to flood damage and ensure your vehicle has a full tank of gas, if evacuation is necessary. Avoid driving through flooded roadways.

Turn around, don’t drown.

SATURDAY

More rain and downpours are likely to develop Saturday as well. The timeline is roughly right around Sunrise, until the evening. It does continue to pose the threat for more flooding with an already saturated ground. The potential for heavy rainfall upwards of 10″+ is still possible tomorrow. We won’t know exactly where the “bullseye” will be until it starts to set up tomorrow morning.

More rain likely Saturday. (Copyright 2024 by KSAT – All rights reserved.)

Another chance of a quick isolated shower possible Sunday, but we’ll keep you posted.
