Head and hands of Texas teen last seen in 2005 found in freezer of Colorado home

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado – The head and hands found in a freezer inside a Colorado home have been identified as a Texas teenager who might have been last seen alive in the Houston area.

In January, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office was called to a home in Grand Junction, Colorado after a human head and hands with forearms attached were found in a freezer.

That freezer was inside a Colorado home recently sold by the teen’s mother.

According to investigators, the home was just recently purchased.

“Upon arrival, Deputies found the head and hands of a human had been discovered in a freezer by someone who arrived to claim the free appliance offered by the new owner of the recently sold home,” the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office shared in a statement.

It took nearly ten months and the use of DNA technology to identify those remains as Amanda Overstreet.

Overstreet was last seen alive in 2005, possibly in the Harris County area, investigators said.

“DNA analysis helped confirm both the head and the hands to be Amanda Overstreet, a 16-year-old female resident of both Grand Junction and Garris County, Texas areas,” said the Mesa County Coroner’s Office in a statement shared on Friday.

The coroner also said that the remains were that of a young female, indicating Overstreet was likely killed years ago.

“I mean, she was a child. She was 16 years old. She’s still a child,” said Wendy Likes of the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office. “The last record we have of her being seen is in 2005 and we do not have any records relating to her disappearance or that she was ever reported missing by anyone.”

This is important to note.

No one ever reported Overstreet to be missing.

She was a teenager at the time of her disappearance.

If Overstreet were alive today, she’d be in her 30s.

Records obtained by KPRC 2 indicate that Overstreet grew up with family in the Houston area before moving to Colorado.
