The store will be located in North Dallas on I-635, according to a press release from H-E-B.
DALLAS — As H-E-B stores pop up across North Texas, Dallas proper has remained devoid of the iconic Texas brand, until now.
H-E-B has rapidly expanded in North Texas, with plans to open 25 stores by 2026, but the retailer has yet to open a store in the Metroplex’s largest city.
However, the grocery chain announced Thursday that H-E-B purchased a 10-acre site in the city of Dallas at the southeast corner of Hillcrest Road and LBJ Freeway. The North Dallas property is across the street from the Dallas County Tax Office and is currently a development of office buildings.
“As H-E-B continues to expand its store network across the DFW Metroplex, the retailer is excited to announce the purchase of property in the city of Dallas,” the company said in a press release.
After purchasing the property, H-E-B will begin to work with the city and surrounding neighbors to rezone the property and plan for development of the first H-E-B format store in Dallas, according to the release. H-E-B will share more details as the project develops, the release states.
H-E-B for years had locations in surrounding areas of North Texas, including Burleson, Hudson Oaks and Waxahachie. It wasn’t until 2021 that the grocer decided to venture into North Texas’ more populous areas, opening several stores in Collin County.
H-E-B also has a Joe V’s Smart Shop store in Dallas, with another one planned. The company also owns Central Market stores across North Texas.
The grocer’s expansion into North Texas has prompted other grocery stores to redouble their investment in the area, according to the Dallas Business Journal. Walmart, Kroger, Tom Thumb and Albertson’s are the other major grocers in North Texas. Tom Thumb recently broke ground on three new stores in North Texas, located in Midlothian, Sanger and Sunnyvale, WFAA previously reported.
