The filing period to run for city council ends Friday, and voters will elect new city council members on May 3.
DALLAS — The makeup of the Dallas City Council will be different after the May election, with at least three open seats.
The filing period to run for city council ends Friday, and voters will elect new city council members on May 3. Early voting begins on April 22.
The three open seats are incumbent District 8 city council member Tennell Atkins’ seat, incumbent District 6 city council member Omar Narvaez’s seat and District 11 city council member Jaynie Schultz’s seat.
Longtime District 4 city council member Carolyn King Arnold filed to run for re-election, but her re-election bid was denied by the city secretary’s office because of a recently passed city charter amendment related to term limits.
Arnold previously told WFAA that her team was seeking clarification on the issue and she was seeking to remain on the ballot.
Proposition E, passed by voters in November, amended the Dallas city charter to eliminate the ability for city council members to run again after serving the maximum four two-year terms, and eliminate the ability for the mayor to run for mayor again after serving the maximum two four-year terms.
Here’s who’s filed to run for Dallas City Council as of 3:51 p.m. Friday. We’ll update this list after the filing period closes.
