The Texas A&M baseball team defeated Oregon 10-6 to begin the Bryan-College Station Super Regional at Blue Bell Park.
However, the mood in Aggieland is currently somber following a right leg injury to junior outfielder Braden Montgomery in the bottom of the first inning on Saturday afternoon.
“I was telling these guys that it’s the third time this has happened to me in my career where right at the tail end of a season or in the postseason where we lost one of our best players, it happened at Tulane and TCU,” Aggies coach Jim Schlossnagle said postgame. “I don’t think he’ll be back. I don’t know the injury exactly. I haven’t talked to the doctors but yeah, I think he’s out for the year.”
Sentiments were the same from Ducks coach Mark Wasikowski.
“First thing on my mind is for Braden Montgomery. I hope the kid’s OK,” Wasikowski emphasized. “That’s a guy that we recruited, we saw quite a bit first hand and up front at Stanford. He’s obviously a very talented player and a great person. I hope he’s OK.”
