Las Vegas long-time investigative reporter Jeff German, 69, was found deceased due to stab wounds outside of his home on Saturday morning. German’s decades of work for the Las Vegas Sun and the Las Vegas Review-Journal focused on political corruption, organized crime, and extraordinary events like the Route 66 mass shooting. German hosted a podcast called Mobbed Up: The Fight for Vegas, and authored a true-crime book, “Murder in Sin City: The Death of a Las Vegas Casino Boss,” detailing the murder of casino executive Ted Binion.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department released photos and video on Monday asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect and a maroon GMC Yukon Denali that was at the scene of the crime.
On Wednesday, law enforcement served a search warrant on Clark County Administrator, Robert Telles (D) in connection with a homicide. German’s recent reporting on Telles exposed a hostile work environment and an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate at the Administrator’s office. Telles lost his primary race for re-election following German publishing his reports.
On Tuesday, the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the publication German wrote for at the time of his death, snapped photos of Telles washing a vehicle that matched law enforcement’s description in his driveway outside of his home.
Law enforcement seized the vehicle at about 12:50 pm on Wednesday.

German also had recently filed public records requests for emails and text messages between Telles and three other county officials: Assistant Public Administrator Rita Reid, estate coordinator Roberta Lee-Kennett and consultant Michael Murphy. Lee-Kennett was identified in previous stories as a subordinate staffer allegedly involved in an “inappropriate relationship” with Telles.
In the days following his June 14 primary loss, Telles lashed out at German on Twitter in a slew of tweets, even alleging German was “mad that I haven’t crawled into a hole and died.”
By 10:30 am on Wednesday a sign appeared at the Public Administrator’s office that read “The building is temporarily closed.” The homicide investigation is ongoing and Telles’ whereabouts are unknown at this time. He is still the sitting Public Administrator with his term ending on January 2, 2023.
