Congratulating Ja’Miyah Gafford on being named the 2025 Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County.
WHEREAS, Ja’Miyah Gafford has been selected as the 2025 Youth
of the Year for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County;
and
WHEREAS, Established in 1947, the Youth of the Year
competition is the premier recognition program of the Boys & Girls
Clubs of America; this comprehensive leadership development
initiative helps club members to build their skills in such vital
areas as communication, goal-setting, and teamwork; and
WHEREAS, Since joining the Boys & Girls Clubs in 2023,
Ms. Gafford has received valuable guidance that has helped her to
develop her confidence and abilities; she has served the club in a
number of roles, including as the founder of the BGCGTC
cheerleading team, which she currently coaches, and she traveled to
Washington, D.C., to meet with legislators and advocate for the
needs of young Texans; in addition, she is working to establish a
nonprofit that offers peer-to-peer counseling for teens struggling
with mental health issues; and
WHEREAS, A student at Lake Ridge High School in Mansfield,
Ms. Gafford manages a challenging courseload that includes advanced
placement courses, and she has further distinguished herself as a
member of the student council; following graduation, she plans to
pursue a degree in architecture at Prairie View A&M University; and
WHEREAS, Ja’Miyah Gafford’s selection as Youth of the Year is
a fitting tribute to her leadership, service, and dedication to
making a positive difference in the lives of others, and she may
indeed reflect with pride on this prestigious honor; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Ja’Miyah Gafford on being named the
2025 Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant
County and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Gafford as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
