I-35W southbound lanes shut down in Fort Worth after shooting suspect leads police on a chase, shoots himself, officials say

 

According to police, the suspect shot and killed someone Saturday afternoon.

FORT WORTH, Texas — All southbound lanes of Interstate 35 West near Heritage Trace Parkway are shut down after a police chase ended in the area, police said. 

According to the Fort Worth Police Department, officers responded to the 2900 block of Buckskin Run Street around 4:44 p.m. to the report of a person shot. 

Police said when officers arrived they found a person shot three times. That person was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where they later died, police said.

In an update, Fort Worth PD said the suspect was located and a chase began on the freeway southbound near Heritage Trace. 

According to police, the suspect’s car eventually came to a stop and it is believed that he then shot himself. 

Police said the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. 

It was not immediately clear how long the shutdown will last.
