Inmate attempts to escape Bexar County Jail Annex, BCSO says

BEXAR COUNTY – A woman held at the Bexar County Jail Annex for arson now has a new charge after she attempted to escape Saturday morning, according to Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

At 1:18 a.m. Genevieve Golden was detained by BCSO deputies after she attempted to escape the jail.

Deputies say Golden waited for the unit officer to complete face-to-face observation checks and return to their station before she made a run for it.

The 38-year-old inmate ran to the back of her unit and breached an emergency door exit when she ran out.

An officer that witnessed the inmate damaging the door called a Code 2 and ran after her. Golden was detained without incident outside of her unit.

BCSO says Golden never left the secured perimeter of the Jail Annex facility and remained inside the secured area.

Golden has since been transferred to a lockdown unit, pending an additional charge of escape, said BCSO.

All inmates in the unit with the breached door were relocated.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is conducting an investigation into this incident, while Internal Affairs and the Public Integrity Unit conduct their own separate but concurrent investigations as well.
