NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas — An inmate at the North Richland Hills Detention Facility died on New Year’s Day after being found unresponsive in his cell, officials said.
According to police, the inmate, identified by medical examiner records as 47-year-old Michael Knight, was found unresponsive in his bed during a routine cell check. Police initiated CPR and Knight was taken to a local hospital where he was declared dead at 9:53 a.m.
Knight was arrested by the Watauga Police Department and charged with driving while intoxicated on Dec. 31, and booked into the facility at about 3:45 p.m. that day.
There is an ongoing investigation into the incident by the North Richland Hills Police Department’s criminal investigations division and professional standards division.
The cause of death will be determined by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
