TEXAS — This week, President Joe Biden issued an executive order that bars migrants from being granted asylum when arrests for illegal entry top 2,500 a day, which was triggered immediately.
Biden’s order comes after the collapse of a bipartisan border security deal in Congress that most Republican lawmakers rejected at the behest of former president Donald Trump. Biden’s order has taken heat from both Republicans and Democrats.
On this week’s “Inside Out” segment, former Texas House Speaker Dennis Bonnen, R-Angleton, and former state Rep. Mark Strama, D-Austin, weighed in on the asylum cap and how the move could affect Biden politically.
