A new hospital with a connection to Dallas-Fort Worth will soon open in Beaumont.
Irving-based Christus Health, an international not-for-profit Catholic health system, announced plans to expand services into Southeast Texas with a new hospital facility that will open in the coming months.
The hospital in the city 285 miles southeast of Dallas will be at the former Medical Center of Southeast Texas’s Victory Campus on Dowlen Road.
As renovations begin, the nearly 6-acre hospital campus will feature an emergency room, surgical space and medical offices. Services will expand with the latest in robotic surgery, full range of orthopedic care and emergency medical care, the health system said.
“As health care needs grow in Southeast Texas and beyond, we continue to expand our services to ensure that area residents have access to the innovative, faith-based care they have come to expect and deserve,” CEO Ernie Sadau said. “We know consumers have choices as to where they seek care, and finding care close to home is ideal.”
Christus Health consolidated its corporate offices across Texas to Irving in 2012 — a move that added 650 jobs in North Texas at the time. About 2,000 corporate employees are based out of Irving now.
The international hospital firm operates more than 60 hospitals in Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Mexico. Christus associates provide care at more than 600 centers, including community hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities and health ministries.
The health system is sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word of Houston, Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word of San Antonio and the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth.
In another move, Christus Health last year purchased Tyler-based CardiaStream to form the largest cardiology group in East Texas. The acquisition added 12 CardiaStream locations across East Texas to its portfolio, including in Athens, Canton, Crockett, Henderson and Jacksonville.
Also last year, Christus Health opened its new international headquarters in Irving in a 15-story office tower in the Las Colinas Urban District. Almost 2,000 employees with the health system moved into the tower, leaving behind several older buildings that previously housed the company’s headquarters.
