Texas A&M’s uniforms have been exceptionally simple over the past four seasons, wearing just one uniform template and only two color combinations (maroon/maroon/white at home and maroon/white/white on the road) with Jimbo Fisher at the helm. The craziest they got was wearing maroon pants at home in the first game after Fisher’s firing last fall.
But with a new staff, change is possible, and if this sporting goods store sighting proves to be indicative, it might be on the way. This is now been confirmed to be happening (see further updates below)
The image above was spotted at a Dick’s Sporting Goods in Rockwall, so it’s pretty far from any kind of official confirmation, but a few things to note:
- This is an Adidas jersey using the same template/fonts as the actual game jerseys, which definitely lends credence to this being legit.
- This would be far from the first time that uniform leaks have happened because retailers jumped the gun on putting items in stock.
- Mike Elko himself hinted at A&M branching out in it’s uniform selections earlier this offseason:
If this black jersey proves to be true, is it a part of an all black look reminiscent of 2012 or 2015? Or just a black jersey with the standard maroon and white helmet/pants? Only time will tell. But I can tell you that just the possibility warms the heart of this uniform nerd.
UPDATE: A black jersey is also listed on the Texas Aggie Bookstore website, though this one appears to have a maroon SEC patch and maroon sleeve numbers.
