‘It’s about time’ | Dealey Plaza visitors react to order to declassify records of JFK, MLK, RFK assassinations

President Trump gave his advisors 15 days to come up with a plan for how the documents around JFK’s assassination would be released, and 45 days for MLK and RFK.

DALLAS, Texas — History and conspiracies have collided for the last 60 years at Dealey Plaza in Downtown Dallas.

The assassination of President John F. Kennedy continues to captivate visitors from around the world.

For Terry Bemis from Iowa, stepping onto the historic grounds of Dealey Plaza gave him chills.

“It’s almost overwhelming in a way because I never thought I’d be in this place,” Bemis said.

Bemis, now 68, remembered exactly where he was as an 8-year-old boy in 1963.

“It’s just a very surreal moment,” he said. “To have watched it at 8 years old and to have watched the funeral.”

Soon, the many questions he and so many others have could finally be answered.

On Thursday, Trump ordered the release of thousands of classified governmental documents about the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy.

Trump gave his advisors 15 days to come up with a plan for how the documents around JFK’s assassination would be released, and 45 days for MLK and RFK.

It was not clear when the records would actually be released.

“When the government provides all the information, then we can have an informed, not theoretical, conversation about the real cause of the president’s death,” Jefferson Morley, editor of the JFK Facts Blog SpyCast.

He believes the release of these documents could finally provide clarity.

The King family released a statement on Thursday asking to review the documents before they’re released to the public.

“The truth will set you free,” Bemis said.

As visitors continue to walk the grounds of Dealey Plaza, they hold onto hope that the truth hidden for nearly 60 years will finally come to light.
