Jon Stewart’s contract for ‘The Daily Show’ extended through 2026

Stewart recently said he was working to stay on the program.

WASHINGTON — Emmy-winning host Jon Stewart is officially remaining as host for “The Daily Show” through the next year.

Paramount announced the new Monday, extending Stewart’s contract through December 2026. Stewart will continue to host Comedy Central’s satirical late-night show on Mondays and serve as an executive producer.

No further details about the deal were made public.

“The renewal is a win for audiences, for Comedy Central and for all our programming partners,” Ari Pearce, the head of Comedy Central, said in a statement to multiple media outlets. “We’re proud to support Jon and the extraordinary news team.”

The news puts to rest questions about the show’s future following Paramount’s merger with David Ellison’s Skydance.

The 62-year-old host left the late-night show in 2015 and returned in early 2024, hosting one day a week.

In a recent interview with The New Yorker, Stewart expressed his desire to stay on the show.

The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline reported last week that Stewart said if the decision were up to him, he’d stay as host.

“We’re working on staying. Look, the other thing to remember is it’s not as clear cut as all that,” Stewart said, according to Deadline. “They’ve already done things that I’m upset about. But then if I had integrity, maybe I would stand up and go, ‘I’m out.’ Or maybe the integrity thing to do would be to stay in it and keep fighting in the foxhole.”

Stewart has heavily criticized the newly merged media company after it was announced that Paramount Skydance would cancel CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” for financial reasons.

The Emmy winner hosted “The Daily Show” from 1999 through 2015, delivering sharp, satirical takes on politics and current events and interviews with newsmakers.
