Kemp ISD to close Friday due to ‘widespread illness,’ school district says

According to the district, classes will resume Monday.

KEMP, Texas — Kemp ISD announced it will close all campuses on Friday, Feb. 7, due to a “widespread illness” affecting students and staff.

According to a letter from the school district that was sent to parents, there has been a significant increase in illness among students and staff. So much so that it was affecting the district’s ability to adequately staff its campuses.

“With rising staff shortages due to illness, we are unable to operate effectively or maintain the standard of services essential for a safe, structured learning environment,” Kemp ISD said in the letter.

The school district added that the closure would allow custodians time to deep clean and disinfect all classrooms, busses and frequently-touched surfaces.

Kemp ISD said classes would resume on Monday, Feb. 10, and that all Friday night activities would go on as scheduled.
