Kohl’s closing more than 20 stores nationwide, including in North Texas

The struggling retailer announced plans to close more than 27 stores nationwide by April 2025.

DALLAS — Kohl’s is closing more than 20 stores nationwide, including in North Texas.

The retailer announced Thursday it plans to close 27 underperforming stores by April 2025, including one store in Dallas at 18224 Preston Road. The Dallas store is the only Texas store closing. California has the most stores closing with 10.

“We always take these decisions very seriously,” said Kohl’s CEO Tom Kingsbury. “As we continue to build on our long-term growth strategy, it is important that we also take difficult but necessary actions to support the health and future of our business for our customers and our teams.”

Kohl’s says the company has informed associates that have been impacted  and they were offered a severance package or the option to apply for other open roles with the company. The Wisconsin-based retail chain has more than 1,150 locations.

The closures come after Kingsbury announced plans to step down as CEO effective Jan. 15 and retire from the board of directors in May. He will be succeeded as CEO by Ashley Buchanan, who previously worked in executive roles with Walmart and Sam’s Club.

Macy’s this week also announced it’s closing dozens of stores across the country, including five department stores in North Texas.
