LA Gov. Landry Considering Sending More National Guard Troops To Border | NewsRadio 740 KTRH | KTRH Local Houston and Texas News

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry is considering sending more of his state’s National Guard Troops here to the Texas border.

The Louisiana deployment is set to expire at the end of the month.

“He has been in discussions with Governor Greg Abbott about extending that commitment of troops to help Texas with Operation Lone Star” said Jessica Vaughan, with the Center For Immigration Studies.

In March, Louisiana sent the first of 3 different rotations of Army National Guard soldiers to help in Texas. As for what they actually do to help?

“What they do on this mission is very important” Vaughan told KTRH, “Helping the Texas authorities patrol the border, which is the most effective way outside of actual barriers.”

Right now, there’s approximately 5,000 Texas National Guard Troops at the border, along with roughly 20,000 Border Patrol Agents.

Governor Abbott’s Operation Lone Star has made a huge difference, with border crossings down significantly here in Texas, while San Diego, CA is the new entry hot-spot.
