The auction includes ring-worn trunks, jackets and autographed jackets from Kevin Von Erich’s collection.
DALLAS — After the release of a major movie and the signing of his sons to a major wrestling company, Kevin Von Erich and his family have been back in the spotlight recently.
Now, fans of the Von Erichs have the chance to own some of the legendary wrestling family’s history, as Kevin Von Erich is auctioning off his extensive collection of memorabilia through Heritage Auctions in Dallas.
The collection includes autographed photos of members of the Von Erich family, including the patriarch and promoter of World Class Championship Wrestling, Fritz Von Erich. There are also ring jackets and trunks worn by Kevin Von Erich when he wrestled in the 1980s, including his famous golden trunks.
“There are people that would appreciate these things more than I do,” Kevin Von Erich said in a statement. “I want other people to have it, the people that would want it. I’m glad to know there are people out there that would want it to tell the truth because a lot of it’s just pictures and jackets — but a lot of work went into it.”
Plaques of each of the Von Erich family members from when they were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009 are also up for auction. Some Von Erich memorabilia has been auctioned off in the past — including a pair of boots worn by Kerry Von Erich and a Ribera Steakhouse jacket signed by Kerry Von Erich and Andre the Giant.
Starting bids on the memorabilia range from $150 to as much as $3,600.
Kevin Von Erich is the last surviving brother of the Von Erichs — including Kerry, David, Mike and Chris Von Erich — who were stuck by tragedy throughout the 1980s and 1990s after achieving fame throughout Texas and the world in the 1980s wrestling in front of tens of thousands of screaming fans.
The Von Erichs aren’t the only wrestlers with gear up for auction. Heritage Auctions also has an extensive collection of gear from legendary wrestler “Macho Man” Randy Savage — including many of his colorful ring-worn outfits, bandana and sunglasses included. They’ll cost you though. The most expensive item in the auction is the outfit Randy Savage wore in 1990 when he wrestled Hulk Hogan on The Main Event on Feb. 23, 1990, which has a starting bid of $6,000.
