DENTON, Texas — A 35-year-old Lewisville man was indicted on a murder charge after allegedly selling pills containing fentanyl to a man who died from an overdose, according to Denton police.

The Denton Police Department announced Anthony Nguyen, 35, has been indicted on a murder charge in the death of John Zepka, 51.

Officers found Zepka dead in his apartment on July 30. Police said his cause of death was multidrug toxicity, including methamphetamine, fentanyl and bromazolam. According to police, an investigation led detectives to learn Nguyen was the one who sold Zepka the pills that killed him.

Nguyen has been in Denton County Jail since Aug. 3 with a $1 million bond, according to DPD. Tuesday, a grand jury indicted Nguyen for murder.

According to Denton PD, this is the third fentanyl murder arrest in Denton this year and the sixth since a state law went into effect making supplying fentanyl that leads to a death a criminal offense.
