Lieutenant Governor unveils top 40 legislative priorities for 2025, pushing bold conservative agenda

AUSTIN, Texas — Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has announced the first round of his top 40 priority bills for the 2025 legislative session. The list includes a wide range of initiatives, from banning THC to increasing the homestead exemption and establishing a Texas Bitcoin Reserve.

Patrick emphasized the significance of the bill numbers, stating, “Traditionally, bill numbers 1 through 20 have indicated the Lt. Governor’s priorities for the Senate. In 2017, I increased the number of priority bills to 30. This year, I am increasing the number of priority bills to 40.” He noted that these bills reflect the conservative majority’s will and are expected to pass with bipartisan support.

Among the highlighted bills are Senate Bill 1, which addresses the Senate’s budget for Texas, and Senate Bill 2, which focuses on providing school choice. Other notable bills include Senate Bill 3, banning THC, and Senate Bill 4, which aims to increase the homestead exemption to $140,000, or $150,000 for seniors. Senate Bill 5 seeks to combat Alzheimer’s by establishing the Dementia Prevention & Research Institute of Texas.

Patrick also mentioned that many other priorities are included in the state budget, such as border security funding and enhancing statewide disaster response. “Over the last four years, the Texas Senate held the line, fighting back against President Biden’s disastrous agenda,” Patrick stated. “Now, with President Trump back in office, Texas has a friend in the White House.”

The announcement underscores Patrick’s commitment to advancing a “bold, conservative agenda” and supporting President Trump’s efforts to “make America great again,” according to the press release.
