The Cowboys are expected to be looking for a new head coach. Who will they target?
DALLAS — Mike McCarthy is not expected to return to the Dallas Cowboys. WFAA has confirmed reports — initially from ESPN’s Adam Schefter – that McCarthy and the Cowboys haven’t had any discussions about a new deal, with his current contract set to expire Tuesday.
With McCarthy set to leave Dallas — and potentially get a new job in Chicago or New Orleans — Jerry Jones and Co. will undergo their first coaching search in five years. Jones hired McCarthy before the 2020 season to replace longtime coach Jason Garrett, whose contract (Iike McCarthy’s) was expiring.
So who will the Cowboys target as their next coach? They’ll have to lure away one of the top candidates from the several job openings in the league at the moment (including Chicago and New Orleans) or find someone more off the radar. And one of the top candidates, Mike Vrabel, is already off the market, getting hired by the New England Patriots over the weekend.
