It’s primary election day in Massachusetts. Here’s what to keep an eye on per DDHQ:
Overview: Polls close at 8:00 pm Eastern. There are nine Congressional districts — though only two of those are contested for the GOP — as well as a gubernatorial primary. Winners are first-past-the-post.
Key Races:
As referenced above, only MA-8 and MA-9 are contested races for the GOP. In MA-8, Robert Burke faces off against Hamilton Rodrigues, while in MA-9, Dan Sullivan faces Jesse Brown. MA-8 is rated “safe” and MA-9 “likely” for Democrats.
In the gubernatorial primary, the state’s current Attorney General, Maura Healey is the heavy favorite for the Democrats (particularly since her opponent, state Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz, has essentially dropped out of the race). For the Republicans, self-funding businessman Chris Doughty faces off against former state Representative Geoff Diehl, who has President Trump’s backing.
