Live from New York: AOC–Eric Adams Spat Gets Nasty

New York City Mayor Eric Adams could fairly say, “Well she started it!” He’d be right because Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the leftist Democrat congressman from the Bronx, took to social media Wednesday to unceremoniously call on the embattled mayor to resign due to the myriad investigations into him and members of his administration.

Shots fired:

The congresswoman included a link to a New York Times article where she said the same thing. That article also detailed the turmoil the Adams administration is going through as the feds investigate all sorts of potential corruption:

Revelations related to a web of investigations involving Mr. Adams and senior members of his administration have been emerging almost daily for weeks.

Earlier this month, federal agents seized the phones of the police commissioner, the first deputy mayor, the schools chancellor, the deputy mayor for public safety and a senior adviser close to Mr. Adams.

The Times reported on Monday that federal prosecutors investigating whether Mr. Adams conspired with the Turkish government to funnel illegal foreign donations to his campaign had also sought information about interactions with five other countries.

Now, if you thought Adams was going to take this lying down, you’d have been mistaken. In a blistering statement to Fox Digital, the mayor basically called AOC a phony:

“For anyone who self-righteously claims people charged with serious crimes should not be in jail to now say that the second Black mayor of New York should resign because of rumors and innuendo — without even a single charge being filed — is the height of hypocrisy,” Adams said. “I am leading this city to protect it from exactly that kind of phony politics. The people of this city elected me to fight for them, and I will stay and fight no matter what.”

Hoo boy. There’s nothing like watching Democrats claw at each other. Popcorn is needed.

There were some funny responses to AOC’s broadside on social media. Here’s one of our favorite posters, Catturd:

While the comments are funny, and the situation is tailor-made for mockery, the actual scandals are anything but humorous for Adams and the city of New York. Either Adams, or at least multiple members of his administration, are involved in some serious corruption, or we’re witnessing yet more heavy-handed lawfare from federal and local prosecutors. Neither would be a good thing for the Big Apple.

Here is a list of all the ongoing probes into Adams and those connected to him. Hint: It’s long.
