TARRANT COUNTY, Texas — Hundreds of North Texas families got unexpected help this year putting Thanksgiving Dinner on the table.
In a generous pre-Thanksgiving initiative, the Arlington-based nonprofit Seasons of Change (SOC) has launched Project Leroy Holmes, a $20,000 grocery giveaway aimed at supporting North Texas families facing food insecurity.
On Friday, the nonprofit surprised shoppers by covering grocery bills across four locations in North Texas.
The giveaway, which requires no qualifications for participants, will provide $5,000 at each of the selected grocery stores.
SOC’s team will pay for customers’ groceries at checkout, offering relief and holiday joy to families in need. The event took place at Albertsons on East Loop 820 in Fort Worth; Fiesta Mart on East Pioneer Parkway in Arlington; Foodland on New York Avenue in Arlington; and Kroger on West Interstate 20 in Grand Prairie.
The event comes as studies show one in eight North Texans experience hunger, including one in five children, food insecurity remains a pressing issue. Over 5 million Texans face challenges in accessing sufficient food. SOC’s Project Leroy Holmes is designed to alleviate some of this burden, providing direct financial support to families as they prepare for Thanksgiving.
“Hunger affects more than just physical well-being; it impacts education, work, and family life,” SOC Founder Tavian Harris said. “This project is our way of giving back and encouraging hope.”
Seasons of Change Incorporated was founded in 2001 and works to empower vulnerable families through critical programs addressing education, healthcare, housing, and food insecurity. The organization serves North Texas, Houston, El Paso, Oklahoma City, Omaha and other regions.
