AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas Longhorns landed one of the top wide receiver recruits in the country Wednesday, and yes, he’s a Texan.
Kaliq Lockett, the No. 2 ranked 2025 wide receiver in Texas by 247Sports, pledged to the Longhorns during a ceremony at Sachse High School. He posted on X to let Longhorn fans know he’s “home.”
He’s considered a 5-star recruit by 247Sports and had scholarship offers from essentially every relevant Power 4 program including Alabama, Texas A&M, Oregon, Ohio State, Louisiana State, Oklahoma and Southern California among many others. Lockett averaged 118.1 receiving yards per game last season with 13 touchdowns, helping Sachse to the 6A-District 9 championship.
Lockett racked up 206 yards on 10 catches with three touchdowns in a 6A bi-district playoff loss 56-42 loss to Rockwall-Heath. His season-high receiving yard total came against Lakeview Centennial with 227 yards on six grabs.
According to 247Sports, Lockett is the first 5-star recruit for Texas in the Class of 2025. The commitment moved the Longhorns up to No. 12 in the 247Sports recruiting team rankings.
