Longtime East Texas firefighter dies from cancer

WINONA, Texas — Winona Volunteer Fire Department announced one of their longtime firefighters died Thursday.

Charles Aldrich served with the Volunteers of Smith County for more than 30 years, WVFD said. A spokesperson for WVFD said he was still serving with the department when he died from an unspecified cancer.

“His ready smile, sense of humor, and dedication to his community and fellow firefighters will be greatly missed.”

He leaves behind his wife, Jana Aldrich. His funeral will be held at Landmark Baptist Church on April 5, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.
