Louisiana National Guard sends more troops to Texas border

The Louisiana National Guard has sent a second rotation of soldiers to the Texas/Mexico border as part of Operation Lone Star.

According to Louisiana National Guard officials, this latest rotation will relieve the 50 soldiers who were sent to the border in March. This rotation, like the first, will last approximately 30 days. The task force command team will remain at the border for all 90 days of the mission.

The Louisiana guardsmen are assisting Texas authorities in preventing migrants from crossing the southern border illegally. According to Texas Governor Greg Abbott, more than 500,000 migrants have been arrested trying to enter the United States without proper credentials. Abbott also says the mission has resulted in the seizure of fentanyl and other narcotics and has led to criminal charges being filed against 42,000 undocumented immigrants.
