SAN ANTONIO – Friends and loved ones gathered at a vigil Monday to support a grieving family who lost three siblings in a crash on the Northeast Side over the weekend.
The crash on Thousand Oaks Drive and Alamo Blanco Street on Sunday was just blocks away from the siblings’ home.
Francis Flores, the victims’ cousin, i dentified them as Evelyn Flores Jasso, 22; Ivan Flores Jasso, 17; Julian Flores Jasso, 9.
Flores asked the public for prayers for her family.
“Oraciones, porque es verdad que no hay palabras de consuelo,” she said in Spanish.
About 100 people showed up to the vigil and reading of the rosary at the crash site.
Taylor Tucker, a neighbor who witnessed the crash, hoped to comfort the hurting parents.
“Their children were not alone when they died. We were here with them, trying to help them. But there was nothing we could do until the jaws of life got here,” Tucker said, referring to other witnesses and first responders.
He said the fatal crash highlights a problem with a busy intersection that neighbors say needs slower traffic and speed limits.
The city of San Antonio said it had done a traffic study on that stretch of road.
“The street in this area includes traffic calming islands that separate north and (south) bound traffic. A 2016 traffic study found low traffic volume in the area,” a representative of the city stated.
