Man dies after crashing vehicle into 18-wheeler while merging onto Interstate 35, police say

  

SAN ANTONIO – A man is dead after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into an 18-wheeler while merging onto the highway, according to San Antonio police.

The crash occurred in the 8100 block of Interstate 35 South around 9:35 p.m. Sunday.

The man, whose age is currently unknown, was trying to merge onto the highway but lost control after hitting a curb.

The man’s vehicle then ran into the side of an 18-wheeler on the highway, crushing the driver’s side of the car, according to a preliminary report from SAPD.

San Antonio fire crews had to extricate the man from the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died, the report said.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the man as 33-year-old Robert Pereida. His cause and manner of death are still pending.

SAPD said its investigation is ongoing.
