Man in custody after hours-long standoff on North Side, SAPD says

SAN ANTONIO – An hours-long standoff after a pursuit on the city’s North Side is over, according to San Antonio police.

The 1100 block of Fresno Street, located just east of Interstate 10, had been blocked due to a standoff in connection with police attempting to serve a warrant for a parole violation, according to police at the scene.

Officers had seen Salas Santo, 37, and maintained mobile surveillance on his vehicle. After finding him, a small chase ensued, which led to the standoff not far from Blanco Road and Edison High School after his vehicle became disabled, police said in a preliminary report.

Santo had been held up inside his vehicle since around midnight as SAPD and SWAT officers on the scene worked to get him out, police said. At some point, a female passenger and a child removed themselves from the vehicle and were unharmed, police said.

Shortly after 5 a.m., Santo exited his vehicle and was taken into custody by police.

Aside from the parole violation, he also faces possession and endangering a child, among other pending charges, the report said.
