Man killed in hit-and-run crash on city’s West Side identified by medical examiner

SAN ANTONIO – Update (March 31, 2023):

A man who was hit and killed by a pickup truck on the West Side earlier this week has been identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner.

David Trevino, 43, died from his injuries, according to the ME.

San Antonio police said Trevino was trying to cross the street without using a crosswalk just after midnight on Wednesday, in the 3400 block of Culebra Road near Northwest 36th Street.

A white pickup truck that was heading eastbound struck Trevino in the roadway, SAPD said.

The driver stopped after the crash but then left the scene. He returned a short time later.

Police said the driver, who hasn’t been identified, was arrested for failing to stop and render aid-resulting in a death, and refused to cooperate with officers.

A man in his 40s was hit and killed by a pickup truck in a hit-and-run crash on the city’s West Side early Wednesday morning, according to San Antonio police.

The crash happened just after midnight in the 3400 block of Culebra Road near Northwest 36th Street, not far from St. Mary’s University.

According to police, the man was attempting to cross the street from south to north and was not in a crosswalk when he was hit by a white pickup truck traveling eastbound.

Police said the driver of the truck stopped after the collision but then fled the scene, only to return a short while later. The man was pronounced dead by emergency crews.

Authorities said the victim lived close by and shortly after the crash family members started to appear in the area.

The driver of the truck was arrested for failing to stop and render aid-resulting in a death and refused to cooperate with officers, police said.

The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all responded to the call.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, police said.
