Texas places more buoys along Rio Grande after Trump’s inauguration

Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott ordered more floating barriers on the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass after President Donald Trump’s inauguration. A federal appeals court ruled that Texas could continue deploying the barriers despite a lawsuit from the Biden administration.

Dr. Adriana Martinez expressed concerns that the buoys adversely affect the river without impacting immigration.

The buoys are part of a state program aimed at preventing illegal crossings into Texas. Abbott’s office pledged to double the number of buoys after a previous attempt was halted due to construction issues.
