Migrant crossings down in Texas, up in other border states

DEL RIO, Texas (KCBD) – The Del Rio sector of the border, which includes Eagle Pass, has been the center of Texas’ fight over immigration with the federal government.

Just last year, the area saw a record number of migrant crossings. But according to CBP data, the numbers have drastically changed.

So far this fiscal year, from October to April, agents have encountered more than 1.1 million migrants along the southern border.

Texas has seen a remarkable decrease compared to other sectors in border states.

Tucson has seen the most this fiscal year, with more than 373,000. San Diego has seen the second most, with more than 222,000. Del Rio is third, with more than 204,000.

CBP data shows that in April, Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 129,000 migrants across all sectors. That’s a decline from February and March when apprehensions were around 140,000.

Officials credit Mexican efforts to keep migrants from crossing and Operation Lone Star for the decline in encounters last month.
