The sheriff’s department began investigating on Monday after an abandoned vehicle was found on the road near milepost 14.

It was initially believed the vehicle might have been stolen.

“A search of the area was conducted by patrol deputies and the PCSD Air Unit however, due to the darkness, and extreme terrain, the search was postponed until the following morning,” the sheriff’s department said.

The search was resumed the next morning and Ponsford’s body was discovered.

Ponsford was last seen in Killeen, Texas, on June 14.

Details about how Ponsford died were not released. Further details are expected to be released after an autopsy is conducted.

The investigation into the Ponsford’s death remains active.
