I’m old enough to remember when we were warned of global cooling and a coming Ice Age in the 70s. In hindsight, it would appear the hype of that theory outkicked its coverage. By the late 80s, the concern had shifted to global warming which, in turn, gave way to the now-ubiquitous CLIMATE CHANGE.
Skeptics have long questioned the science behind the alarmists’ claims – particularly as said science so often smacks of the political variety rather than an objective, observational, evidence-based study of our world and the impacts we may have on it.
Unfortunately, as with most issues these days, climate change has become yet another political football, with Team Blue and Team Red locked in an unending scrimmage, the fallout of which includes bad policy and silly online memes and quips.
In the midst of a blizzard – or is that called “bombogenesis” these days? – a skeptic might wryly remark on all the “global warming” falling from the sky. “Don’t confuse weather for climate!” come the rapid retorts. Fair enough. While those two concepts are related, they are not one and the same.
In the same vein, a hurricane walloping Florida — and even temporarily sucking water out of a bay – is not “climate change.” It’s weather – bad weather. And it, too, shall pass.
