The first two, Jace LaViolette and Gavin Grahovac, were expected. They were, after all, A&M players in 2024 and openly advocated for Earley’s hiring.
The third was not expected.
Former Texas Tech first baseman Gavin Kash, widely regarded as the best player in the transfer portal not named Grahovac or LaViolette, announced his commitment to the Aggies shortly after Earley’s press conference concluded.
Kash is coming off an excellent season in Lubbock, where he hit .300 with 15 home runs, 51 RBI and had an OPS of .926. But his 2023 season was absolutely spectacular, as he hit .327 with 26 home runs, 84 RBI and an OPS of 1.089. That was enough for Kash to be named a unanimous first team All-Big 12 selection and a second team All-American.
With the departure of Ted Burton, the Aggies have an opening at first base. Either Kash or Fairfield transfer Matt Bergevin (.287, 18 HR, 59 RBI, 1.044 OPS) will play first, with the other either serving as the designated hitter or playing a corner outfield position.
