Muslim civil rights group to hold press conference on an alleged hate crime in North Texas

According to police, the suspect involved in the incident has been charged with attempted capital murder and injury to a child.

EULESS, Texas — The Texas Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Muslim civil rights and advocacy group, is holding a press conference on Saturday in Richardson about an alleged hate crime that took place last month.

The attack occurred back on May 19, 2024, when Euless police responded to the 2500 block of Highway 360 to the report of a disturbance between two women, according to police.

Police say when officers arrived, they were told by witnesses that a woman, identified as 42-year-old Elizabeth Wolf, was very drunk and tried to drown a child after arguing with the child’s mother.

According to police, Wolf was arrested for public intoxication.

Police say officers continued their investigation at the scene and talked to the mother of the victims. The mother told officers that Wolf had been asking where she was from and if the kids in the pool were hers.

According to police, when the mother answered, Wolf tried to grab her 6-year-old son, but he pulled away from her, which caused a scratch on his finger. Police say the mother started helping her son when Wolf allegedly grabbed her 3-year-old daughter and forced her underwater.

Euless police say the mother was able to pull her daughter up from the water as she was screaming for help and coughing up water.

According to police, Euless Medics arrived at the scene and cleared both children.

The mother stated that Wolf made comments about her not being an American and other racial remarks, police say.

According to police, Wolf was charged with attempted capital murder and injury to a child. However, she is not currently in jail, according to police records.

CAIR is calling on state and federal law enforcement to investigate the alleged attack as a hate crime.

The case has garnered attention from community leaders including State Rep. Salman Bhojani.

“I’m shocked and appalled by this alleged racist, Islamophobic occurrence that took place in my town. Hate has no place in Euless, District 92, or anywhere in our great state,” Bhojani stated. “I want to thank Euless PD for quickly apprehending the alleged provocateur, and I extend my service to the affected family.”

The press conference will be held at the Hexa Co-working Event Center at 2100 N. Greenville Avenue at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22.
