AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas senior Leo Neugebauer broke his Texas Relays record and claimed his third consecutive meet championship in the decathlon Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
He posted the third-best decathlon score in NCAA history, racking up 8,708 points to win the event by more than 1,000 points. Washington State’s Lee Walburn scored 7,694 points to finish in second place.
Neugebauer was pacing ahead of his NCAA record of 8,836 points after the first five events Wednesday and nearly eclipsed his mark. Neugebauer ran the 110-meter hurdles in 14.51 seconds for 910 points and his mark of 168 feet, 11 inches in the discus won the event and scored 902 points. He set a personal best in the javelin with a distance of 193-6 for 723 points and he cleared 16-8.75 in the pole vault for 941 points. He ran the 1500 in 4:51.05 for 612 points.
Texas freshman Brock Lewis finished 10th in the 10-event disciploine with 6,768 points.
Sophomore Jeremiah Nubbe broke his Texas record in the hammer throw, launching it 239-10 to win the event by nearly a foot.

On the women’s side for the Longhorns, junior Allyson Little moved to No. 6 all-time in program history with a time of 10:41.57 in the 3,000 steeplechase to win the event. Senior Kristine Blazevica finished third in the heptathlon with 5,662 points.
The Texas Relays continue at Myers Stadium through Saturday.
