Another new development in the Hunter Biden saga suggests even further that if the amount of smoke hovering over this affair is any indication, the fire it comes from might rival that of a bad California summer. Remember the laptop from hell that continues coming back to bite President Joe Biden’s son where the sun don’t shine? According to a new exclusive NY Post report, Hunter’s nightmare device contains contracts and business agreements with not only domestic business partners but with foreign entities such as Burisma and Chinese energy company CEFC. Will these documents be the impetus for finally opening an impeachment inquiry in Congress?
From the Post:
Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop is filled with contracts and agreements between him and foreign business partners that could shine new light on his business dealings, and potentially implicate his father, insiders around the first son told The Post.
Hundreds of documents are littered among the tens of thousands of emails contained on the laptop — but the files were not downloaded onto the device, and investigators cannot open most of them.
Although investigators can’t open most of the documents, others copied on various emails, including Hunter’s former business partner Devon Archer, who’s scheduled to speak to the House Oversight Committee Monday, presumably still have the emails and the attachments. The Post details one email Archer was copied on related to Burisma:
Hunter’s business ties to Burisma are elaborated on agreements that cannot be opened from the hard drive.
Hunter Biden and his fellow Burisma Board member Devon Archer were tagged on a November 2015 email from Eric Schwerin, the head of Hunter Biden’s investment firm Rosemont Seneca, to Vadym Pozharsky, the chief financial officer of Burisma.
“Attached is the agreement executed by BS,” he said using a shorthand for Burisma’s lobbying firm Blue Star Strategies.
“I know Devon gave you the immediate scope of work that BS is working on between now and the end of December. We expect a download on the meetings, etc. that they have made so far and will get that to you shortly,” Schwerin said.
As a recipient of this email, the file would presumably still be in Archer’s possession.
If any of those contracts/agreements that Hunter Biden was paid under say that he promised to deliver some kind of connection to his then-Vice President father, one expert told the Post that constitutes a felony violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).
There’s also a March 2016 email thread between Hunter and his then-business partners Rob Walker and James Gilliar related to the Chinese company CEFC containing a document titled “H to Zang Draft.” Zang, according to the Post, is “almost certainly” Jianjun Zang, an executive director of CEFC. A source told the Post that the draft document “was consummating their original deal for the work that they were doing.”
“Take a look and let me know. Very simple. Once ok’d. I’ll send to Joan to sign?” Rob Walker wrote to Hunter.
Joan Peugh was Hunter Biden’s office manager.
“Yes.”
Hunter Biden responded.
According to the same source, Hunter and Joe were to be paid after Joe Biden’s term as Vice President ended.
Just weeks earlier, Hunter’s father, then-Vice President Biden, said he would not run for president in 2016 and the family was looking for ways to monetize him by using the Biden name to open doors in foreign nations.
They would be paid once Joe Biden left the White House.”
Well, this doesn’t sound so good for the Bidens, does it? Assuming that this is true, it could lead to additional criminal charges for Hunter (since federal prosecutors confirmed on Wednesday that charges for violating FARA are still on the table); it could also spell trouble for the president.
If the laptop also contains information showing that Joe was involved in Hunter’s shady business dealings, the political damage that results could be devastating. It becomes even worse if Archer confirms that Joe Biden participated in (as opposed to simply being dialed in) phone calls with his son’s foreign business partners when he was serving as vice president. This would mean that the nation just caught him in a huge lie that he, nor his allies in the elite media, could spin in a way that will wash with the American public.
Even further than that, it could also open the door to impeachment even wider. Talk of impeaching President Biden has abounded in conservative circles ever since Republicans regained control of the House in the midterm elections. Several GOP lawmakers in the House have called for such a move. Yet, some Republicans in the Senate are not too keen on the idea:
Senate Republicans see impeaching President Biden ahead of the 2024 election as a risky political strategy that could turn off moderate voters and are hoping to wave their House GOP colleagues off from marching down that road.
GOP senators say the party is better off focused on how to improve Americans’ lives in the future instead of fighting messy battles to settle past political scores.
“Staying focused on the future and not the past is in my view the best way to change the direction of the country and that’s to win an election,” Senate Republican Whip John Thune (S.D.) told reporters Tuesday.
Senate Republican Policy Committee Chairwoman Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) said Tuesday she would prefer to focus on national security policy, which the Senate is debating this week as it wraps up work on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
“I’m really focused on NDAA right now. I really want to see it get done and I want a bipartisan deal between the House and the Senate. I think that’s what we’re focused on,” Ernst told reporters. “We need to get our [appropriations] bills done, too. So, that’s what we’re going to focus on in the Senate.”
Senate Republicans might be squishy on the impeachment idea right now. But if more of the contents of Hunter’s laptop are made public, and combined with Archer’s highly-anticipated testimony, it could very well force their hand. They most likely will not succeed in removing Biden from office, but the hearings would certainly expose a lot of dirt involved with the Biden family.
Republican concerns about impeachment turning off moderate voters are valid, but the opposite might also be true. If more of the sordid details of Hunter’s business dealings are exposed, it could influence many of these voters away from Democratic candidates. It is worth noting that Democrats attempted to impeach Trump twice for less than what is being revealed about the Bidens, and it did not prevent them from increasing their hold on the Senate. So far, there does not seem to be much of a reason not to impeach President Biden.
