New shopping in D-FW: The top 20 stores making North Texas debuts

   

Is the Dallas region entering a new renaissance in retail?

In roughly the past year, North Texas has seen stores from around the country — and the world — open their doors, or announce plans to do so, for the first time. There are more than 20 are moving into the market, ranging from large chains to boutique shops.

Dallas-Fort Worth is riding a wave of population growth, adding more than 150,000 people from July 2022 to July 2023, according to U.S. Census data. That was the fastest rate in the country for a metro. The region also has been racking up corporate relocations with some hubs coming from California and other parts of the country.

“It’s all good news for the market,” said Rob Franks, managing director, JLL, the commercial real estate firm. “These folks are coming here because the people are moving here, and because the money is here, and because it’s a place people want to live and operate and stay .. and build their careers here.”

Some come from Japan, the United Kingdom and other areas. Lindsay Nicholas New York, a brand that is based in Australia, opened a store at Galleria Dallas, officially welcoming visitors in August. It’s the first physical store in the U.S., complementing a primarily online presence, said Lindsay Nicholas, president and creative director of the firm.

”This new store allows us to expand our footprint and connect with our U.S. customers in a more personal way,” Nicholas said. “The city’s vibrant and cosmopolitan energy mirrors the essence of our brand — elegant, intelligent, and sophisticated fashion designed for bold, modern women.”

Nicholas has bought a home in North Texas, noting it’s nice that there’s a direct flight between Dallas and Melbourne.

Franks said the Dallas market’s strength will continue to attract key names to the region in the future, even if it’s not at the same pace that’s been the trend of late.

”Quality breeds higher quality,” Franks said. “It’s a clustering effect, if you will. And the growth from other guys coming into the market is just going to continue to intrigue others to want to do the same.”

Here are the top 20 stores that have opened or are slated to be open. This a curated list and doesn’t include pop-up stores.

NorthPark Center

Wilson: The well-known sports brand has a new shop with a collection of sportswear, footwear, gear and accessories. Services include racket stringing and equipment rental.

Prada: The more than century-old luxury fashion company is taking one of the larger spaces in the south corridor Neiman Marcus and Dillard’s. The only other Prada in the state is in Houston.

Etro: Another Milan brand that landed in Dallas that’s in countries around the world. The men’s and women’s luxury brand sells clothing, accessories and shoes.

Glossier: The beauty brand is the first store in Texas for the company. It offers makeup, skincare, body-care and fragrance products.

Hill House Home: The company that gained fans with its “Nap Dress” has four other stores, including New York City and Miami.

Varley: The British brand sells a variety of clothing for women and is planning a site next year. This follows its initial U.S. push into New York, with a locale in SoHo on West Broadway.

ME+EM: Another British brand is set to come soon at the shopping center. The company has gained attention from the royal family and also has only been in New York until today.

Rothy’s: It’s a shoe brand with a sustainability message and Austin has the only other store in Texas.

Amiri: The brand whose flagship is on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills sells men’s and women’s clothing, along with handbags.

House of Givenchy: In a first for the luxury brand in Texas, the company launched a stand-alone store that covers about 5,600 square feet.

Highland Park Village

KHAITE: The New York-based upscale fashion brand opened just its fourth storefront at the shopping hub. The brand, which focuses on womenswear, also has sites in Seoul.

Chloe: The French luxury retailer arrived in Dallas in a first for Texas. It was founded more than 70. years ago by Gaby Aghion, an Egyptian-born Parisian.

Richard Mille: The luxury watch brand is set to open in the spring of next year. It will be the first standalone for the state of Texas.

Galleria Dallas

Uniqlo: The Japanese retailer that’s built a following in other parts of the world landed in October. It came days before openings in Stonebriar Centre in Frisco and The Parks Mall at Arlington.

H&M Home: The store, which sells home goods, launched in May and was the 10th of the retail giant’s home-goods stores to open in the U.S.

Lindsay Nichols New York: It opened officially in August and is “for women who are daring yet considered, sophisticated but also bold.”

Knox-Henderson

Ball and Buck: The retailer that serves beer while you shop relocated its hub from Colorado to North Texas. It provides clothing and gear for hunters.

North East Mall (Hurst)

Primark: The British retailer, which offers “quality fashion at value prices,” is to take on more than 34,000 square feet. It’s part of an expansion across the state.

South Dallas

Joe V’s Smart Shop: H-E-B, after making waves in the grocery market with its namesake stores, opened its first shop in Dallas-Fort Worth with its Wheatland Road store. The store “uses innovative ways to reduce costs throughout its operations.”

Design District

Luxury Living Group: The furniture store opened its first Texas location. The company is based in Forlì, Italy, and the new local showroom covers about 12,000 square feet.
