In what feels like a bit of a throwback, members of the press are in the midst of a meltdown over Donald Trump’s trip to Arlington National Cemetery.
As RedState reported, the former president attended a ceremony for the servicemembers killed in the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal. He was invited by the Gold Star families to participate, many of which have justifiably criticized the nonchalance and lack of accountability from the Biden administration.

The current president infamously checked his watch multiple times while receiving the bodies of the deceased servicemembers at Dover Air Force Base. He also repeatedly brought up his son, who died of cancer years after leaving the military, in a way that many of the family members of the fallen found insulting and dismissive.

In other words, if there’s anything to be up in arms about, it’s the fact that the Biden administration, including Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, have repeatedly shunned these Gold Star families. So what’s MSNBC reporting on? The supposed scandal of Trump showing up after being asked to.
It’s hard to fathom the level of unearned arrogance that would lead a cable news talking head to essentially trash the Gold Star families who wanted Trump to be there. I can only assume their opinions are irrelevant in the face of the collective moral superiority of Mike Barnicle and Joe Scarborough.
There are conflicting reports about whether Harris and Biden were personally invited to the event, but what I do know is that both could have spoken publicly about the anniversary. Neither of them did, with Biden remaining on the second week of his vacation while Harris held no other events. To then make the issue about Trump, who showed up to honor the fallen, is ridiculous.

One of the complaints centers on Trump taking a smiling picture with the Gold Star families. Talk about nitpicking. Yes, Arlington National Cemetery is a solemn place, but when those who lost loved ones want to take a picture, you take the picture. That should be far down the list of things to be outraged over for any intellectually honest person.
This is the American press, though, so instead of focusing on Harris being responsible for the disastrous withdrawal that got these servicemembers killed (she took direct credit for it), the outrage is directed at the one guy who has dared to say their names and be there when the families called.
