He takes over from retired, long-time sheriff David Soward, who served the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office for 48 years, including 12 years as sheriff.

Last month, Soward reflected on his time with the ACSO during an episode of “Spriester Sessions” with KSAT’s Steve Spriester.

Jake Guerra previously served as Atascosa County’s chief deputy sheriff under Soward and was elected sheriff in last November’s election.

Following his successful campaign, Guerra posted on his campaign Facebook page that he has always had an open-door policy, a practice the public can expect to continue.
