Anfernee Orji, a Rockwall High School grad, returned to a middle school in his hometown to serve as a substitute teacher.

ROCKWALL, Texas — Middle school students at Rockwall ISD’s Utley Middle School were in for a treat this week.

A robotics class at Utley Middle School were surprised to find out their substitute teacher was Saints linebacker and Rockwall high school graduate, Anfernee Orji.

Orji played football for Rockwall High School and committed to play college football for the University of Vanderbilt. Orji was signed to the New Orleans Saints in 2023 as an undrafted free agent . He played in 16 games, starting two of those, and logged 30 tackles in his rookie season.

Anfernee Orji’s brother, Alex Orji, plays quarterback for UNLV after transferring from the University of Michigan. His other brother, Alston Orji, also played linebacker at Vanderbilt from 2018 to 2021 and transferred to Campbell for the 2022 season.

Rockwall ISD said in its Facebook post this week that Anfernee Orji is serving as a substitute teacher during the offseason.

“Thank you for coming home and pouring into our students,” the district said in its post
