No. 2 Texas softball set to open SEC play against No. 3 Florida

AUSTIN (KXAN) — In its first season in the Southeastern Conference, Texas will face their first SEC game versus the University of Florida on Saturday.

Through 27 games, the Longhorns have an overall record of 26-1 — their best start since 2006 while on a 15-game winning streak. The lone loss comes against No. 20 Stanford but hasn’t dropped a game since the 9-5 defeat on Feb. 21.

“As a coach you’re never satisfied, you always want more. Obviously, the record is pretty good. It speaks for itself, but we know there’s some big challenges ahead of us and that we just got to play the game that we’re capable of playing,” head coach Mike White said.

Coming off a 5-0 stretch in the Ohio State tournament, Texas outscored their opponents 48-5. Now, a trip to Gainsville will test the Longhorns as they face the Gators for the first time since beating Florida 10-0 in last year’s College World Series.

“Both teams this year are going to be different, so it’s not going to be the same. It’s hard to kind of look back on game like that,” Catcher Reese Atwood said.

No. 3 Florida are 26-2, and unlike the Texas, the Gators have already played their first SEC opponent winning the series against Texas A&M 2-1.
