AUSTIN (KXAN) — No. 23 Texas edged Washington 4-3 on Sunday to avoid being swept at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The start of the game was delayed about 90 minutes due to rain and there was a 4:45 p.m. travel curfew so Washington could get back home, so the game was officially 7 1/2 innings.
The Huskies made it interesting in the eighth with a 2-run home run by AJ Guerrero to cut Texas’ lead to one run, but Andre Duplantier entered to get the final three outs to preserve the victory and earn his first save of the season.
Washington outhit Texas 8-4, but the Longhorns manufactured runs without needing many hits. Porter Brown drove in a run on a fielder’s choice and Rylan Galvin plated one on a ground out in the first inning, then Jalin Flores hit a sacrifice fly to score Jack O’Dowd in the second. Texas ended its scoring with a Jared Thomas bases-loaded walk in the fourth.
