AUSTIN (KXAN) — No. 9 Kansas shot 63% from the field to run away from Texas 86-67 in Big 12 Conference men’s basketball action Saturday at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence.
The Jayhawks moved to 14-0 at home with the win and five players scored in double figures, led by Hunter Dickinson’s 20 points on 9 of 17 shooting. Kansas sank 32 of 52 field goal attempts while the Longhorns converted 26 of 62.
Former Westlake star KJ Adams Jr. scored 16 points and had eight rebounds for the Jayhawks.
For the Longhorns, Tyrese Hunter and Dillon Mitchell each scored 12 points while Ithiel Horton chipped in 10 points off the bench. Kansas outrebounded Texas 34-25.
The Longhorns briefly led early in the first half, but the Jayhawks went on a 12-0 run to turn a 1-point lead into 13, and then the rout was on. Kansas led 45-25 at halftime.
Texas (17-10, 6-8 Big 12) has another tough road game Tuesday in Lubbock against Texas Tech. The Longhorns are tied for ninth with Kansas State in the 14-team Big 12.
