North Texas hospitals create food sculptures for a cause, here’s who won.

Medical City McKinney won $35,000 for a local food bank with its “Hangry Birds Fight Hunger” sculpture

MCKINNEY, Texas — One out of every seven people in North Texas faces food insecurity and doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from, but Medical City Healthcare is trying to fix that one food sculpture at a time.

Medical City Healthcare held its fifth annual “Healthy Food for Healthier Tomorrows” food drive and sculpture contest to benefit food banks across North Texas and Louisiana. After food donations and financial contributions, Medical City Healthcare helped purchase 20,000 pounds of food and pledged $6,000 to 17 food banks and pantries.

Hospital participants of this year’s non-perishable food sculpture competition theme used some of the donated food for the theme “We Show Up to Fight Hunger.” Each hospital entry to the competition earned a cash grant for its selected food bank beneficiary.

The first-place prize of the competition was $35,000 donated to the hospital’s food bank beneficiary. Medical City McKinney won with its “Hangry Birds Fight Hunger” sculpture, and their grand prize was donated to the Community Food Pantry of McKinney.
