North Texas mom gets 60 years after pleading guilty to poisoning her young child

A North Texas mother who pleaded guilty to poisoning her 4-year-old child with Benadryl was sentenced to 60 years in prison Friday.

Jesika Lynn Jones, 32, of Krum was arrested and charged with injury to a child and endangering a child in July 2022, after she took her daughter to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth several times with reported seizures. A post from the Tarrant County district attorney’s office said Jones gave her daughter Benadryl to fake a seizure disorder.

Jones pleaded guilty to the charges in January. On Friday, Judge Steven Jumes of the 485th District Court sentenced Jones to 60 years in prison.

The Tarrant County sheriff’s office investigated the case. Sheriff Bill Waybourn said in a department X post that the verdict “sends a clear and strong message that we will not tolerate medical child abuse in Tarrant County.”

Neither of Jones’ listed attorneys responded to phone calls and emails seeking comment Friday.
